Extension Courses and Communitarian Relations
The committement of Extension Courses and Communitarian Relations of Santa Cruz University is to promote the socialization of knowledge and the conscious and systematic intervention on reality, through the discussion, reflection and exchanges of knowledge, developing integration process with the University and the regional community as to contribute to the improvement of their life quality.
UNISC, as a communitarian and regional university, has been placing itself as a partner in the dialogue and in the search for solution to the regional problems. This nature and attitude of our University can be noticed as in its continued extensions activities (extension courses programs and projects) as in its circumstantial activities (courses and scientific, cultural and leisure events) and in its courses of professional education - basic and technician levels, being present the community at the University and the University at the community.
Therefore, the Extension courses comprehends a field of knowledge diffusion, experiences of applied researches, careful consideration and consultancies to different external actors, in diverse knowledge fields, specially education, health, environment, art and culture, work and generation of job and income, social, technological and rural development. With a relative liberty in its structure in its functioning, the Extension courses enables the teachers' and students' work, many times of an interdisciplinary sort, motivated by the opening and sensibility of social local and regional requirements, what facilitates the collective initiative of the University with the external segments and actors. The people served are conceived not only as target audience, but rather as active subjects, participating, actors in their life conditions and in interaction with the groups of the university.
Fomentation and Institutional Development of the Extension Courses
The Extension courses development has been directed by the search for the quality and social, economic and technological importance. With this purpose, UNISC priories three main points of extensions action:
- the socialization of knowledge;
- the implementation of a solid relation of interchange with the regional community, intending to fulfill the requirements of the different segments, as well as offering actions which make interactive and cooperation process possible between the University and the society;
- the production of new knowledge, aiming to amplify the universal knowledge and the effective conscious participation in the regional and country's reality.
To motivate and qualify the proposal and the development of the Extension courses projects, UNISC offers the following mechanisms of support:
Program of Extension Courses Scholarship – PROBEX
The Program of Extension Courses Scholarship makes the participation of students possible in the process of interaction between the University and the community, through the concession of credits for the students to enter in Extension Courses programs and projects, enabling the knowledge building from the theoretical-practical articulation, contributing to their academic and professional education.
The program is maintained entirely by UNISC, making the participation of academic students possible in Extension Courses projects, with the concession of up to 20 basic credits, in the period of 10 months.
Program of Volunteers in the Extension Courses - PROVEX
This Program aims to strengthen the participation of academic students in the Extension Courses activities, in a volunteer way, in institutional projects.
The Program is of continuous flow, in which academic students interested in taking part of it send their enrollment in any period of the year through the presentation of a work plan, with a schedule of activities of, at least, 5 months, and, at most, 10 months.
Program of Support to Extension Courses Projects for the Social Development – PAPEDS
This Program is a modality of institutional fomentation, originated in the Fund of Research and Extension Courses, with annual destination of 10 % of balance from this fund, and is characterized by the development of action towards the problems and necessities of community in the social field, with the participation of an institution or corporation from the region. The Program involves teachers and academic students linked to the University, aiming to increase and make best practical conditions of development of Extension Courses projects, through the concession of credits to the scholars and financial resources for the purchase of consumption material, equipments and services of others.
